What to do this Mother’s Day in Sacramento (i.e. not your usual brunch)
1. Go for a Picnic at the McKinley Rose Garden
McKinley Park opened to the public in 1902 and has since become a popular destination for weddings, photoshoots, and the like, for good reason. The Rose Garden, which spans over 1.5 acres, makes a beautiful backdrop with its 1,200 roses. Instead of joining the crowds at one of Sacramento’s many brunch spots, pack a picnic and enjoy the lovely spring weather while the roses are in bloom!
2. Have Mother’s Day Brunch at the Sac Zoo
Take a turn from the traditional brunch by enjoying it at our local zoo. With mimosas and bloody marys, you’ll be sure to have fun touring the park after your meal. Don’t miss out on the adorable mother/baby pairs the zoo cares for.
3. Go on a self-guided tour of the ‘Wings of the City’ Art Installation
If you haven’t seen these beautiful art installations on loan from Mexican artist Jorge Marín, take advantage this Mother’s Day while the weather is so pleasant. The sculptures will be on display until November, but don’t wait too long, it’s already 90 degrees out there. Take a self-guided tour via the map available here, and stop by Temple to buy your Mom that much-needed coffee she’s been asking for.
4. Enjoy Mother’s Day High Tea and Champagne at Chocolate Fish
If the tea and champagne are as good as their coffee, you’re sure to have a good time. This afternoon tea includes sandwiches, cakes, tea, and champagne for two. The event is held at their East Sac location and has 2 seating times.
5. Have some laughs at the Mother’s Day Comedy Showcase at Punchline
Maybe not quite so common a celebration, a barrel of laughs could be just what Mom needs. Enjoy a break from tradition at Punchline with their Mother’s Day Comedy Showcase staring Justin Rivera.
6. Embrace your Inner Queen at the Mother’s Day Flower Crown Workshop
Bring the girls over to West Elm and join Bella Nozze as she teaches you how to make your own fresh flower crown. Snacks and beverages are provided and even a mini photo session once your crowns are completed!
7. Get your drink on at Mother’s Day on the Pond in Auburn
Dine amongst the vines at Vina Castellano Winery. With a brunch by the water, you can kick back and relax with a glass of pinot in your hands. Hosting a full brunch including everything from cocktails to wine (of course), a kid’s station, and coffee service. What more can you ask for?
8. Go for a stretch at Mother’s Day Yoga at Araceli Farms
Take in the moment during Ryan Saavendra’s gentle yoga flow class held at a lavender farm. That’s right, I said lavender farm. Does it get more idyllic than that? Stick around for brunch and enjoy the lovely weather.
9. Take in the view on this Mother’s Day Wildflower Walk
This wildflower walk follows in the footsteps and paw prints of 19th-century explorer David Douglas and his faithful dog, Billy. You’ll be introduced to many of the flowers first collected by Douglas, including the Mount Diablo Fairy Lantern, Mariposa Lily, Baby Blue Eyes, and Chinese Houses as you walk up to Mitchell Canyon.
10. Attend Andrei Baumann’s Classical Concert at the Crocker
As part of the Crocker’s Classical Concert Series, award-winning pianist Andrei Baumann will perform Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 28 in A major, Op. 101; and Chopin’s Piano Sonata No. 3. Before the performance enjoy an in-depth, docent-led tour of select works from the Crocker’s permanent collection of 19th-century European paintings, to help put the music in context with the art.
11. Grab a beermosa at the Beermosas & Brunch by Jackrabbit
Take the whole family, yes this includes Fluffy, and head down to Jackrabbit Brewing Company for some seriously mouth-watering food and a fun drink menu. Throwback a beermosa a.k.a. Saison Farmhouse Ale with OJ or peach nectar and go to town on some of the many tasty bites provided by Cowtown Urban Eatery. Full English Breakfast? Chilaquiles? Yes please.
Whatever you decide to do, have fun!
