My 5 Fav Cocktails in Sac (at the moment)

My 5 Fav Cocktails in Sac (at the moment)

Coming into a kind of craft cocktail renaissance, I’ve definitely seen many a new cocktail emerge here in the last few years. With cocktails changing all the time, I thought I’d share with you my go-to drinks this season. It’s worth noting that all of these places have tasty food too so go hungry.

THE REAL GIN AND TONIC

by Ella Dining Room and Bar

This gin and tonic is Ella’s signature cocktail for a reason. It consists of gin, sucanat, sparkling water, fresh citrus juices, and a seriously good rainforest quinine tonic that’s made in-house. Easily the best gin and tonic I’ve ever had.

P.S. Go for happy hour when this nectar of the gods is only $6.50. Score.

The Painkiller

by The Jungle Bird

I love this drink so much that I bought two of these classic Pusser’s Rum mugs and made the drink at home. The best thing? The recipe is on the back of the cup! If you’re not in the mood to play bartender, then head on over to this fun tiki bar and get yourself a tangy treat.

This playful cocktail has rum, orange juice, pineapple juice, cream of coconut, crushed ice, nutmeg, and a cinnamon stick. While you’re there, why not order an appetizer? The Pu Pu Platter is the perfect thing to share.

HOUSEMADE TEQUILA INFUSION MARGARITA

by Centro Cocina Mexicana

Centro’s Tequila Infusions are made in-house and change seasonally. So it’s no surprise this has become my go-to place for a margarita. My current favorites: Strawberry Habanero and Pineapple Serrano. They have a kick and go perfectly with some house chips and salsa. Grab a seat at the bar and enjoy their happy hour menu.

Well Gin and Tonic

by Q Street Bar and Grill

Gin and Tonic at Q Street Bar and Grill

This is by far the cheapest cocktail on the list. It’s a simple well gin and tonic poured with a heavy hand. Their G&T is definitely spirit-forward and a very good value. I go here quite often to get Thai food and always have a drink. This dive bar knows good food and stiff drinks. What more can you ask for?

Open Sesame

by Kru Restaurant

I have told many a person about this cocktail. It is SO good. While this list is just of my recent favorites, I’d put money on this cocktail being one of the best in Sac. So without further ado, this drink is made of:

Juniper gin, cucumber-yuzu shrub, Dolin dry vermouth, lemon juice, and garnished with dots of sesame oil and a ribboned cucumber.

It’s a delight to drink and worth every penny.
