Listening Time: about 30 min-1 hour
Finding Sacramento is a podcast focusing on how entrepreneurs, artists, chefs, musicians, and others make themselves in this city and make it their home. The host Nathan Miller moved to Sacramento in 2015 and before that he hosted a podcast in Asheville North Carolina called Finding Asheville, which lasted for 84 episodes. Nathan took his same creativity and focused it on Sacramento. He takes the notion that Sacramento is the city of trees and he uses it to define the goals and objectives of his podcast. First starting with the “Roots” and looking at why people made Sacramento their home and how they used their success in Sacramento to make it a better place and how to emulate their success and what that means for others. The second part of the tree is the “Trunk” and Nathan says that this is the core identity. He tries to pull back each idea about what the true identity of Sacramento is and what it is not and what it truly means to live in Sacramento. Lastly, Nathan uses the term “Canopy” to look at the growth of the city and the changes for the future and what will affect current residents and newcomers alike.

Listening Time: about 30 min-1 hour
Starting in 2016, host Jeff Bennett focuses his podcast on the community of startups and innovation in Sacramento. Not only is StartupSac a podcast, but it is also a public benefit corporation organized under Nonprofit Benefit Corporation Law. Their mission is to connect with entrepreneurs in the area and provide and create education opportunities through workshops, digital news, and providing outreach in the community to help entrepreneurs and startups find the right resources. StartupSac was started just as a passion project to be the source of information or as they say, “the 411 of the Sacramento startup community” but it has quickly grown through receiving the RAILS grant which allowed them to create an App and expand their education and outreach programs for the community. Bennett does a great job of going to the innovators and the podcast takes place in a variety of locations like offices, coffee shops and other places to show the true environments of these Sacramento innovators.

Barley & Me

Listening Time: about 30 min- 1 hour
The dream is to be able to travel to breweries, drink beer, and talk to cool people, and that is exactly what Ben Rice host of Barley & Me does! As the Sacramento beer scene continues to grow and become better, a podcast like this is great and super valuable to spread the stories of these local Sacramento brewers. Ben has a relaxed, funny and easy to talk to demeanor and he is able to have more candid and comfortable conversations with his guests. I mean, why not? Who isn’t more relaxed when they have a beer in their hand! His Thanksgiving episode, in which he talks to Justin MacClanahan of Bru Co Taproom has a super comedic tone in which they also interview people walking by on K street. This leads to a variety of conversations from internet love affairs to conspiracy theories. Ben does a great job of exposing his listeners to the wide world of beer in the Sacramento area and providing education and insight into the stories of these local entrepreneurs.
