How to Support Local in Sacramento During COVID-19
There’s no doubt about, it’s a strange world out there right now. And as we all adjust to our “new normal,” I am continuing to look for ways to support our local community. We’ve all heard stories of how local businesses are suffering and while the government is working on finding ways to provide financial relief, it’s ultimately up to us to do what we can to support these businesses and breathe life into our economy here in Sacramento.
Most are feeling a financial strain right now, but if you still have an income and need to purchase something, consider your local store first. Here are some great ways you can support our community:
- Food pick-up or delivery! (Wondering if takeout is safe? Learn more here from a UC Davis virologist on how to stay healthy and support local restaurants.)
- Cocktail, wine, and beer pickup
- Purchase gift cards (most places are giving discounts!)
- Buy local online – hello puzzles, self-care products
- Get your groceries delivered using apps (quicker than store delivery services right now and supports our local independent contractors)
- If you still have a steady income and the financial means to do it, continue to pay your cleaning people, hairstylist, nanny, etc. They need us and we need them.
- Check to see which of your services/providers are now being provided online – therapy, yoga instructors, etc.
- Follow your local shops, restaurants, people to see what you can do to help on social media!
- Donate to local shelters and non-profits
- Help out the local hospitals – 4 ways here, see if you qualify for free COVID-19 test
- Take care of each other!! Why not have a conference call hang out or do a social distancing neighbor get together – I’m lookin’ at you Sharon 😉
VisitSacramento and a fantastic redditor @_BKC have created lists of local businesses that are open, including special offerings, and hours during this period.
Stay safe, stay healthy, stay home (except pick-up!).

With my love of all things design and food, it was only natural for me to start a blog. I want to share with others my adventures as I travel, eat, read, photograph, and discover my way through Sacramento. As a Realtor, it’s important to me to know what’s happening in my community. And why not share that with you?
