Plants That Help Purify The Air in Your Home
I have been super obsessed with house plants recently and I have been doing quite a bit of reading on different plants and the care that they need. I then stumbled upon and began reading about some plants that can actually help clean the air in your home and I had to share!
Snake Plant
The snake plant is a very eye catching and is actually a part of the succulent family. They are easy plants to take care of and thrive in low lit environments. Be careful not to water it too much because it is susceptible to root rot. This plant is a great one to keep in your bedroom because it actually releases oxygen and can help you breathe better while you are asleep. It is known to filter out things like xylene, benzene and formaldehyde.
Spider Plant
The spider plant is know for its adaptability and ease of care. They can handle abuse and are a great plant for newbie gardeners. They thrive in indirect light and well drained soil. Like the snake plant, without proper drainage they can suffer from root rot. Spider plants can help remove toxins such as carbon monoxide and xylene, which is a solvent that is prevalent in printing and rubber.
Aloe Vera
Know for its many medicinal properties, aloe vera is another plant that can help clean some of the toxins from your home. These succulents thrive in bright sunny spots with deep but infrequent watering. Let the soil dry before watering again. It is known to remove toxins such as benzene and formaldehyde which can be found in varnishes and detergents.
Chinese Evergreen
One of the easier plants to take care of, the Chinese Evergreen is usually chosen by novice gardeners for is ability to thrive in low light conditions and does not require a lot of water. Humidity is something that it likes very much and would be a great addition to your bathroom. The Chinese Evergreen is known to remove toxins found in detergents and cosmetics such as benzene and formaldehyde.
Broad Lady Palm
This house plant is not actually found in nature, but came from Chinese cultivators. This makes the Broad Lady Plam one of the easier palms to take care of and a great addition to your home. They thrive in any form of light but the most suitable for them is full indirect sunlight. The Broad Lady Palm is susceptible to root rot so it is important that you do not over water so that water is standing in the soil. They can tolerate short dry periods but thrive best when the soil is constantly moist. The Broad Lady Palm is one of the only plants on this list to remove ammonia from the air which are commonly found in household cleaning products.
