The Park Neighborhoods of Sacramento

The Park Neighborhoods of Sacramento

Imagine this: It’s a Sunday morning and you have a nice cup of coffee in your hand. You open up your window facing the park. You see the sunlight peeking through the oak trees. Joggers and dog walkers are visible in the distance. The morning is peaceful and quiet and you feel connected with nature. Welcome to park living.

Living by a park has long been considered a luxury and provides such great access to nature right out the front door. Sacramento has some beautiful and coveted park neighborhoods that should not be overlooked. Here are some of the areas and what makes them special and not so special (because nobody is perfect)!

LAND PARK

Nestled near I-5 and Interstate 80, Land Park provides peaceful and beautiful landscapes with close proximity to Downtown and Midtown. Land Park has some interesting history and was conceived in 1911 when William Land gave $250,000 to purchase a park that he wanted to be in close proximity to Sacramento. Land Park offers the greatest amount of park land compared to all the park neighborhoods, filled with an interesting variety of oak, redwood, and palm trees, as well as provides great entertainment for the family with the Sacramento Zoo, Funderland, and Fairytale Town. When in Land Park, also stop by the iconic Tower Cafe attached to the Tower Theater and catch a quick bite to eat before watching an independent film. Land Park has the highest home prices compared to the other park neighborhoods, with the median listing price according to Realtor.com at $695,000.

CURTIS PARK

Curtis Park offers a quaint and quiet ambiance with a charming sense of community that cannot help but make you smile. With the abundance of trees and close proximity to William Curtis Park, this neighborhood offers the same feel as Land Park, but with less activity. While Curtis Park is an older neighborhood, it’s seeing some new construction projects, with Curtis Park Village by BlackPine Communities already built and expanding. When thinking of Curtis Park, nothing can be more representative of the family-friendly environment than Gunther’s Ice Cream; but fret not, Curtis Park is home to more adult hangouts as well. Pangea Bier Cafe provides a wide array of beer on tap, as well as some great and moderately priced food options. Curtis Park offers the second highest home prices compared to the other park neighborhoods, with the median listing price according to Realtor.com at $650,000.

TAHOE PARK

Tahoe Park provides the beautiful community feel with more affordable home prices than some of the other park neighborhoods. The median list price for the area according to Realtor.com is $399,000. While the homes in the area maintain that Sacramento charm, not all of them maintain the same level of uniformity as Curtis Park and Land Park. Developed mostly between 1945 and early 1950, Tahoe Park provides great access to Downtown and Midtown without taking the freeway. Residents can easily get to work through side streets and public transportation. The beautiful 19-acre park provides great amenities like parks, fitness stations, jogging trails, and a recreational pool. Stop off at Bacon & Butter for some great breakfast, but get there early because the long line forms quickly!

OAK PARK

One of the oldest suburbs in Sacramento, Oak Park has experienced some revitalization, as well as some controversy as new businesses have moved into the area. Despite the differing opinions on the matter, Oak Park still retains its charm while offering a similar Sacramento-style aesthetic to that of the other park neighborhoods. Though crime rates tend to be higher than some of the other park neighborhoods, Oak Park is still a very popular area. Much of the attraction stems from Oak Park’s affordable housing, with the median listing price around $330,000 according to Realtor.com. Oak Park also offers a short commute to Midtown and Downtown, making the drive easy and quick. With Sacramento’s huge Farm-to-Fork movement, the Oak Park Farmers Market every Saturday provides a wide array of vendors like Faria Bakery serving up delicious naturally leavened bread and pastries and the like.
