Is there anything better in life than shatteringly flaky, indulgently buttery pastries? I don’t think so. And apparently, neither does Faria – unless it’s fresh out the oven, naturally-leavened bread of course.

This long-awaited bakery hit Sacramento at just the right moment. While there are bakeries in Sac, none of them have quite hit the mark for me (unless you count Andrae’s in Amador). Move over San Francisco, Sacramento is taking on the pastry scene.

Let’s talk menu.

Faria’s breads and viennoiserie selection varies from week to week. Especially right now – as they are hosting their soft opening. So don’t expect the pastries to last long, they may run out, so get there early!

Oh, and in case you’re wondering what viennoiserie means (because I sure was), they are:

Baked goods made from a yeast-leavened dough in a manner similar to bread, or from puff pastry, but with added ingredients (particularly eggs, butter, milk, cream and sugar) giving them a richer, sweeter character, approaching that of pastry.

Consider me a fan of viennoiseries!

Especially when they involve shallot and mozzarella danishes, pear puffed amaranth brioche, & kouign amanns.

They also serve coffee from locally roasted, specialty coffee roasters, Mast Coffee Co. Because when eating pastries, nothing washes down those flaky bits (or edible confetti as one customer put it) than a cappuccino.

Now as much as I love their food and coffee, I can’t forget to mention the space. Wool Design Co. did some beautiful work. Though I admit there are some choices that make me wonder a bit (background in coffee here speaking). The untreated light wood really pops, but I’m can’t see it staying that way. Just in the week after opening, I could see greasy stains left in the beautiful tabletop. Also, the gorgeous hand-scraped counter siding, while it is super chic, looks like a bit of a nightmare to clean. Having said that, the shop does look fabulous. But I wouldn’t be opposed to some more chairs outside and a couple of tables to go with them! I want to stay and relax but seating is a bit tight inside. So if you want to hang out in the Broadway Triangle, grab your treats and pop a squat on Strapping’s new(ish) railway benches.

Overall, I can easily see myself stopping here several times a week. And though I hate to think about the price, I definitely plan to splurge on friends and coworkers with boxes of these delicious morsels to go!

P.S. They also offer classes! Check out their website for the deets.
