May is Bike Month! Get Out and Ride!

May is bike month and with some minor cold weather Sunday and Monday, we are gearing up for a great warm month! With all the social distancing happening why not hop on a bike and take a spin on some of these awesome trails in our backyard! Folsom Bike has done an amazing job of posting some awesome routes of varying levels in the greater Sacramento area. Here are a few of my favorites! 🙂

American River Bike Trail

About 32ish miles one way, from Folsom to Old Sacramento the American River Bike Trail is one of the best places to ride your bike because it is a designated path just for cyclists and pedestrians away from the cars. This route has scenic views and can take you all the way down to Discovery Park or Old Sacramento. The American River Bike Trail tends to get a busier on the weekends but there are plenty of access points along the way so that you can still social distance.

Lake Natoma 17

The Lake Natoma 17 is a segment of the American River Bike Trail that goes around Lake Natoma. This route is nice because it is removed from the cars and you can ride right next to the lake as well as the fish hatchery. Get scenic views of Lake Natoma and find plenty of little spots to stop off and take a drink and have a little snack.

Jayhawk 35

For the more experienced road cyclist who loves a nice hilly ride, the Jayhawk 35 is a great ride! This route will take you through Folsom and into the scenic roads of El Dorado Hills and surrounding areas. Take Deer Valley out to Jayhawk and enjoy some fun and scenic climbing. This is a great course to build endurance and skill.

Around Folsom Lake 50

If you really want to push yourself and ride even longer the “Lake Loop” as it is often called is a hard but extremely fun ride! This is for experienced cyclists who are comfortable riding on roads with smaller to no bike lanes on more rural roads. With that being said, this route with give you some VIEWS! It also puts into perspective how large Folsom Lake actually is. The route starts in Folsom goes down Salmon Falls and up to Cool, through Auburn and back down Folsom Auburn Rd to Folsom again. Challenge yourself and take some awesome pictures along the way!
